Decision Making

The world is like glass
That has been recently rained on
All hazy outlines
Vague shapes aglow in the
Cool silence of lamplight
That walk
Dimly
Through the vastness of their shadows
Adrift on a sea
Of softly moving feet.

I see my hands like a photograph
Crisp
Clean
Awake
In the loneliness of clarity
When the world is so unclear.

Alone,
I wait for the sunrise
When warmth returns and
The sleeping world stops whispering.
I watch my hands and
Think of sleep,
Think of ships without anchors or sails,
Ghost ships
Full of mist and broken wood,
Think of stained carpets,
The lasting mistake,
Brown with echoing apologies,
And am alone.
